I had never heard about anime before.
This is where friendship is important. Those around us can introduce some of the most interesting things in our lives.
Ah, the PSP what a magical instrument of ecstasy to those of us living before 2009.
One morning my friend introduced me to a new PlayStation Portable (PSP) game called Naruto Ultimate Ninja Impact.
He told me it was about ninjas. I was like well that sounds cool. I always thought about ninjas, samurai, war martial arts, assassins and magic is pretty cool.
The game featured beautiful cell-shaded maps with animated characters.
They had superpowered moves with cool names.
The game also had fun enemies with cool scrolling comics segments in between playtime.
He also mentioned something about a series that he was watching on television about the same game characters and the show was animated.
Time rolled on by and soon another year had passed.
I was suddenly introduced to a series of toys called Beyblades. They were enthralling. Essentially there were spinning tops that you could battle around within a plastic arena set up with a bunch of friends.
Each Beyblade had a different logo your name attached to them. They each had separate so-called abilities with cheesy names like storm pegasus and rock scorpion. I found out later that each Beyblade was named after a difference star constellation. This only further fuelled my interests.
As I started collecting and battling the spinning tops call Beyblade I also happened on the tv show for the same products.
This is my real first time watching anime. The Beyblade show was streaming from Japan and I watched the English dubbed series.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the beautiful animation and the superb storylines.
Time continues to pass on but I had still not really gotten into what anime really was all about.
My best friend then introduces me to a new game called Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai Another Road.
It was it a two-dimensional fighting game with characters that could hone energy from the atmosphere with amazing finishing moves and an online network play mode.
It was every student's dream. I remember getting to school sometimes with my PlayStation portable hidden in my bag and we would play Dragon Ball through the break. The battles were endless as was the fun and soon I was totally addicted.
Even though I play the games a lot, I never really got down to watching the Dragon Ball series and I still haven't to this day.
The second anime series that I watched was Psycho-Pass.
I happened to come upon the show while scrolling to Netflix. It popped up in my recommended feed and the rest is history. The show is basically about cops set in a dystopian future world where emotions are calculated and actions are estimated to stop crimes. This is definitely a must-watch for anybody looking to get into anime.
I have watched many fabulous anime shows since then and have played many more games related to anime as well.
Here are some of the anime shows I have seen and would recommend to anyone just starting out.
1)Bleach: This is a great show for swordfight maniacs who enjoy amazing effects and a great story. It is a very long anime with 366 episodes. The length gives the show time to develop characters really well and provide well-planned storyline switch great villains and side characters.
2)Naruto: Everyone in the world has probably heard about this ninja show or seen images at some point in their life. This is one of the most enduring fan favourite shows of all time engrossing millions around the world.
3) 91 Days: These 12 episodes will satisfy all your mafia addictions enough said.
My journey into the anime dimension has not ended yet. The level of entertainment, creativity and access to superb storytelling through visual means can scarcely be found in any other void than anime.
If you haven't watched anime till now, I would urge you to check it out as soon as possible. I promise you won't be disappointed. It will be time well spent. There are also fabulous review sites that you can check out and read reviews before watching a show so won't be disappointed. I will leave a link for those below.
